I tried searching before I created this post, but you type stringer in the search box and it pulls almost every post in the restore forum. So this is my questions. I'm going to be building my stringers shortly and need them to be about 17' long. I have read everywere about a scarf joint being the strongest, but I don't have a way to create that type of joint. I was thinking of layering up 2 pieces of 1/2" ply with staggerd but joints and glueing everything together with some PL. Would this be strong enough? It will be going in a 19" center console. I kind of drew an illustration with paint to show what I'm talking about.

Re: Stringer Construction

i thought that the way the inside of the stringer was just to support the fiberglass over it..which gives it the strength... in that theory,it wouldnt matter how "strong" the inside material was....hell people make hollow stringers and foam stringers etc....

Yeah I've read about that also, It's just that these are about 13" tall at the center portion and don't want to take the chance of them buckling seeing that the floor will be fastened to them.
