Next project on the ole' tub is to figure out instrumentation:

Temp gauge seems to be working (it's leaning toward overheating in the photo below, but I've fixed that), I think oil pressure (idiot light) is working. Gas gauge isn't working right (not pictured or in the dash) but I think the amp meter is working right. Trim gauge is definitely not working, and the tach is not working right.

Couple of pictures to help:
Tach.jpgInstruments.jpg

The tach (left photo) is showing around 1200 RPM at idle (engine is not running that hard), and shows me at 6000+ at WOT (I'm thinking, "not."). I know you can adjust a tach, but I don't know how and couldn't quite figure it out from the other posts I've read. So, any thoughts on how I would do that?

... and/or ...

I don't mind just replacing the tach, but the dash setup is pretty OMC specific and at this point 40 years old. I don't think a new tach is going to fit into the space easily/properly/at all. Anyone have experience with this on an old OMC?

The reality might mean a new dash setup (and some of the switches could surely use an upgrade), but right now most of it is working and I kinda' like the look.

Any thoughts? Thanks much.

Re: Stringer Drive Tachometer Calibration

... Bump ...

Took the boat out again, and watched the tach a little more carefully. It's still reading idle at 1000 to 1200 (ish). If I'm not mistaken it should idle around 600 (sounds about right when I've got it running). When I run it WOT, the tach will read in the low 5000's for a few moments, and then climbs up to 6000 ...

So, is this tach dead? (I know nuthin' or less about them)

Ayuh,.... Is there a selector switch on the backside, like 4- 6- 8,..??

If so, swing it from stop to stop, 'n reset to where it needs to be....

Other than that, Replace it...
