Hello all.. After talking to everyone i have decided to restring my 1974 fibreform boat.. I was reading threads and am a bit confused.. My boat from the hull to the floor board is may 3 ft high at the back... the stringer at the rear where the motor is bolted to is totally encased in fibreglass and looks to be originally approx 6 inchs wide by 4 inchs deep.(three two by fours would fit in nicely side by side).. I have cut some of the rest of the boat away and the rest of the stringer is 2 two by fours together not totally encased in fibreglass. In fact right at the bow there is no fibreglass except on one side(where the stringer runs tight beside the main floor support. Its looks like two by fours were in it but there is mention of wood rot as well as using ply... What would you use on a 24 ft boat,2x4s or plywood laminated? And would you encase totally in fibreglass? once again thanks guys i will try and post some photos soon..

Re: Stringer Material?

There are 100's of threads here on stringer/transom/sole replacements. Use iBoats search. or here 24' fiberform rebuild
If you encase any and all wood you will not have any future rot.
You have an ardous task ahead, I wish you strenght. Protect your health and take plenty of pics.

Re: 1977 2650 Flybridge Cruiser 26 ft. - new to me

Hi all,
I have been given this totally redone 1977 Fiberform boat and am starting to buy the electronics for it and would like to know if the hull is fiberglass over wood or just fiberglass in that I would like an in hull depth finder/sounder so I dont have to start drilling holes in the transom. I understand that the in hull/ boat depth finders will not work through plywood. Any info would be apreciated.
I am trying to do everything hand held in that I am dissabled and have a relatively short life span ahead of me and need everything now and portable.

Re: Stringer Material?

I don't know of any boats manufactured that have a plywood cored bottom. Topsides and transoms - yes.
