'84 should be Mechanical shift - 80W90 should be fine. Only the electric shift models need Type C.

'84 shouldn't be ... should be full mechanical. You can tell by the ID tag from the engine, the year of the drive (particularly the lower unit) and/or the look of the drive.

1962 - 1977 should be electric shift
1978 - 1980 (I think) should be hydro-mechanical (didn't last long)
1980 - 1986 should be mechanical shift

ID tag should be on your engine - typically on the starboard side, rear motor mount.

Hey Guys,
I need a prop breakdown.
I think my prop is missing something on the inside.
I had it in the water and it was not spinning, whats behind the prop?
on OMC 400
when I took off the prop these this is whats behind,
is this right?

I think to fix a spun hub you'll need a press - I'm not sure on that, because I've never done it. You may want to look into having a shop do the work.

i took it took the prop shop, and it was missing the plastic hub that goes inside. needed a hub kit.

I know I'm late to the party, but I'll add for edification purposes. You can tell if a Stringer is electric or (hydro)mechanical based on whether it's through-prop exhaust or not as well. Electrics were NOT through-prop exhaust but the mechanical variants were. If there's a cone over the center of the prop then it's electric (boogie-woogie-woogie).
