Redoing and old v142 Skiflite

I ripped out the floor(s)
And already have the stringers out and ready to to put new stringers in.

I have a question on if there should be a drain in the stringers area?
If you look here:

In the "bowl" in the bottom of the boat, you can't see them but there's holes drilled in the sides of the bowl. The holes were drilled through the stringers.
If you look at this pic you can see the hole in the side of "bowl"

Should there be drains under the floor? Or should this be sealed up?

Does anyone have any pics of a early 60's v142 skiflight rear part the boat?

here's a full gallery.

Re: Stringers and floor question

Hey Buzz,

Welcome to iBoats. The "Bowl" is called the Bilge and YES those holes are definitely needed to drain the hull to the bilge. I'm a little confused by your pics. It appears your floor (Deck or Sole, boats don't have floors") is still in the boat. Is this an old picture? Is this a fiberglass hull boat? The deck in the picture appears very wet and possibly rotted. It should be removed and the Stringers would be below it and would be attached to the hull. What Stringers did you remove? What "Floors" did you remove? The holes in the bilge allow any water below the deck to drain into the bilge and then the bilge has a drain tube in the transom to drain the water out of the boat. Hope this explains the structure better.
This picture might help

Re: Stringers and floor question

The pic where I showed you a side view of the bilge is an old pic.

Let me take you through my steps.
Here's the Deck of the boat.
The top layer is 1/4 plywood.

I removed the 1/4 inch plywood and found 1/2 tongue and groove wooden boards.
101_0191.jpg

After I removed the the tongue and groove boards I found the actual deck of the boat and a big hole.

I cut the fiberglass, Just under the fiberglass was about 1/2 plywood that sits on the stringers.

and

Now, On the outer stringers, there were holes drilled through the fiberglass and stringers into the bilge. I dont know if this was done by someone in the past or the way it should be. The holes were drilled in the location as marked in red arrows.

Should those holes be there when I put the stringers back. Or when I put the stringers back should I seal it up?

I installed drains in my stringers on my boat too. They will help in drying.

I might add, the holes there were in the stringers weren't fiberglassed. you could feel the rotted wood.

Ok Buzz,

Now you're talkin!!! WOW Three layers of Decking. What a mess. I guess the PO's were just to lazy to fix it right. Well at least you are going to. YES YES YES make sure to keep the holes there. They are needed for draining any water that can and will get under the deck. Make sure to grind the old fiberglass down for good adhesion with the new glass and encase your stringers in fiberglass resin and cloth and seal everything below deck as best you can. Check out this guys thread. It has a LOT of great info on how to do what you are going to be doing.
