Good Day Y'all
Replacing stringers on 14 foot 76 crestliner fibreglass boat. Old stringers were plywood and fibreglassed in. Was thinking of replacing them with cedar 2x4'sthat would be fibreglassed in. Any ideas. I do have marine lumber for the new floor and transom.

Re: Stringers

Cedar is not the material to be using on the stringers. It has been discussed before in threads and I can't remember the reason. Do a search and you'll probably find the reason. 95% of the boats here use plywood for the stringers cause of the greater strength Some guys use dimensional but most do the laminated ply.

Re: Stringers

I used dimensional, but I was rebuilding an inboard that uses the stringers for the motor mounts. I tend to agree that cedar is a poor choice, but if the fiberglass wrapping them is heavy enough and properly layed, then the wood itself is not that big a deal, you could make stringers out of cardboard if you did everything else right.

Re: Stringers

It took a while to find but I did it. Cedar is too soft and does not hold screws.
