My 165 Mercruiser IL6 has stripped threads in one of the holes for the studs that mount the exhaust riser. Is it possible to put a heli-coil of some kind in it? Or is this going to cost me ~$500 for a new manifold? I think it might be tight enough for now. I will know tomorrow when I go fishing! I went to check to make sure that the 4 bolts were tight on the riser and found on of them stripped. I thought it was the stud but found that it was the threads in the hole were stripped.

FreeBeeTony,

NOT recommended you run with only 3 nuts. Easy way to let water into your engine (Not recommended also). Helicoil is o.k.

Chris........

Helicoil repairs are good.

I've put in a helicoil for the cylinder head bolt hole in my 5.7 Mercruiser. It's a much higher stressed area and bolt torque is 65ft-lb. Been holding so far.
