Hello folks,
I’m having a hard time installing the shifter and throttle cables on my 2002 Johnson 25 HP outboard. I have an aftermarket binnacle remote box and Johnson/Evinrude cables. For the shifter cable when I attempt to put the trunion fitting over the engine side shifter arm, it is about 2” too short. With the trunion all the way out as far as it will go, it still won’t reach the shifter post. It’s as if I need to move the anchor bracket on the motor a couple inches towards the shifter arm to make it fit which doesn’t make sense. I’ve tried everything such as adjusting both trunion ends all the way out and it baffles me. My throttle cable issue is that the rounded plastic and permanent/unadjustable fitting that keeps the cable secure in the remote box(at the bottom of the box) sits a couple inches above the fitting/entry area of the bottom. That makes sense as the attachment of the throttle arm in the box is a couple inches higher than the shifter arm.
Any tips folks? I could use your help. Thank you.
