My 1976 service manual foe my 25 hp Johnson says to use OMC Accessory Engine Cleaner for varnish removal on jets and other parts......
Is this stuff still around?...OR what do some of you use for really cleaning out the varnish inside carbs?....OR do you always replace with new jets and orifices?
Some or the build up will not come off with my off the shelf spray carb. cleaner.....
thanks

I think its called BRP engine tuner now.

On another note, heated up simple green full strength has done good for me at times. It got 60 year old fuel leftovers out of my fuel tank on the chris.

I have used lacquer thinner to remove varnish from brass and aluminum carb parts by soaking them for a while. do not put rubber or plastic in the lacquer thinner.

A similar, excellent carb cleaner is an aerosol product called "Gumout." It's similar in that it will dissolve dried fuel and fuel gelatin. Available at any auto parts store.

No it is not. The stuff back in the 70s was good! I think it was pure Carbon Tetrachloride. It really stank up the neighbourhood. But it really was a good carbon/varnish remover

The BRP Engine Tuner is a real good carb cleaner. The longer it soaks the cleaner it gets.

I'll put in another vote for soaking in lacquer thinner -- has always seemed to work.

Ok....I'm gonna try laquer thinner......dont know why.....it smells like it will do the trick....AND I think you can still get Carbon Tet. at the drug store.....
I know we used it to preserve our specimens in comparative anatomy class. But that was 100's of years ago.
thanks to all.....it's a problem.....
BTW...I used simple green and a piece of carpet (scrubber) to take off Oak Leaf Dropping Stains from my Aluminum boat,,,nothing else would do it.....I took a alum brace to Lowes and used a little of everything that they had......a little sneaky but I only used a little of each....anyway...nothing worked as well as Simple Green...I dont know what's in it....
I have my doubts on it with that yellow thin tough coating that coats needles and orifices......
