stuck carb

Bottom carb on 125hp 1969 in-line 6 is stuck closed. (no wonder I wasn't getting enough speed). I have tried sprying it with WD40 but it hasn't loosened it up any. Is there any way to loosen these babies up without taking the carb off and pulling it apart?

try to lube from top of carb where throttle shaft<br />goes in. throttle shutter attatches to it with<br />2 screws. shaft is attatched under throttle stop.<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.

The question is whether it is stuck due to gummy carb deposits, corrosion or some other busted linkage problem. If its gum, try some spray carb cleaner (engine not running) and let it set with the solvent awhile. If its corrosion its going to take some time and patience and a lot of penetrating solvent to hopefully work it loose. Make sure something hasn't come undone or broken that is preventing it from rotating. (Sometimes a screw or nut can get sucked in there and jam it stuck). Worst case scenario is you have to take it off and play around with it.

if you have the avail to use an air compressor, you might try to blow out the carb from the throat side-back. after you have done the things mentioned above. But finding the cause by removing the carb and checking it out would be safer tan having a quick fix leave you stranded. if you do attempt to blowit out remove the flaot bowl drain plug first and let it drain out the gas/solvent first.

Thanks for your advice everyone.<br />After a week of spraying it with WD 40 and going nowhere I took the carb off. The bottom part of the shaft was stuck in the carb while the top part was free to turn. Had to break the shaft to get the butterfly out. Then carefully drilled out the inner part of the remaining shaft and carefully pressed the remains out. A good clean and it was ready for a new shaft.<br />The boat shop had a later model 140hp they were parting out, so I bought the bottom carb and swapped the throttle shaft over, keepin the original butterfly.<br />Whammo!! Goes like a rocket now.
