Anybody have a secret method to getting this thing off/out of the shaft. It is frozen in there good. PB blaster not working and not sure how hot I can get this thing without doing damage to something :grumpy:

Strongly advise that you do not apply heat to that driveshaft.

Do you have the impeller off?
Is the pin a retainer that simply slides into a round hole?
Is it a woodruff key that inserts into a slot?
Is it a nylon type key and the impeller is locked onto it and the driveshaft?

I've gotten them off already by splitting the center hub of the impeller with a cold chisel.

Assuming that the impeller along with its hub are off and the key is visible..........

I've always had good luck by using a narrow center punch and tapping the key at one end or the other.

Other than that, I let a machine shop remove it rather than to take a chance on damaging the driveshaft.

Notice the given info about "Boobie" at the left of the page. He is a Moderator for this website of "iboats". Any question posted may be answered by any other member.... it's a given thing.

I should have mentioned that when tapping one end or the other of the impeller key with a narrow pointed center punch, I tap it straight down so as to force the key to rock itself out.

Re: Stuck impeller drive pin/key

Well obviously post #3 is nothing but BS that has no reason to be posted on anybody thread!

A PM is, well a private message that goes to that person and they get a little indicator that lets them know that they just received one. There is zero point in any way shape or form to tell someone that you PM'd them on anybody's thread. That is just stupid and rude.

Post #6 ??? "I've gotten them off already" ??? again obviously not talking about the subject matter of my thread. You got yours off too, great so did I as I had posted. This response has zero to do with this thread

That is stepping on someone's thread! Posting nonsense that has zero to do with it because they either can't or will not read the thread, or just don't understand it.

I know he's a moderator, so fact is he should act like one.

#9 Nope didn't help at all, didn't even read and nope don't want to talk just to Joe but if you do why don't you do it in a PM.

#11 No I think it's open and was asking for help not some stupid nonsense.

Re: Stuck impeller drive pin/key

I used a Dremel tool with metal cutting blade and carefully cut the center ring of the impeller enough to open it up and get it off.

As to the subject of the thread-

Thanks Joe for actually doing what the rest of us do on here and attempting to help out, I really appreciate it.

Well I pretty much destroyed it trying to get it out. Nothing helped. I even let it sit for two weeks spraying it with PB blaster a couple times a day.

Good news is all fixed!

I cut it out with a cut off wheel on my dremel. It was way to easy. The shaft material was harder then the pin, I just took my time. It came out perfect.

Thanks again for the help.

Re: Stuck impeller drive pin/key

Hey YT thanks for helping too!

It wasn't the impeller stuck I had long since had that off, but the key.

Wish I thought of my demel earlier.

Thanks.
