What do we win if we can guess what engine and outdrive type you have, which is something that is going to be needed to answer your question.

Re: stuck in gear?

Sounds like the shift interrupt system isn't working correctly, or at all.
Does the engine just die when you try to pull it out of gear, or do you have to pull real hard, then the engine dies and it comes out of gear?

no i killed the engine with the key to stop.when i pulled hard it did not come out of gear & i did not want to break anything so i could have pulled harder but didnt.i read about the interupter on this site so i thought mabe a low bat might cause it to stick.how would i check the interupter? thanks

Nope, low battery wouldn't do it.
You could have either a bad interrupt switch or a bad ESA unit. Either one would not "Interrupt" the ignition which would allow the back cut dogs in the shift clutch to release.
Here is a link to some (ok, a lot) of information on the ESA/shift interrupt system on the Cobra.

http://www.hastings.org/~stuart/cobra/index.html

Bummer, 1 beer left and could have Won a half rack.
