Stuck in reverse

Own a 23 ft seawswirl I/O. Just put boat in water. Drove it to marina slip, put in reverse, and would not come out. Gear shifter does feel stiff Any suggestions? I have had the boat for 8 years with no problems.I did service the outdrive last fall with new oil.

Howdy,

your type of boat doesn't do us much good.

It might be better to reveal what type of engine, drive, outboard, V-drive, etc that you're having the problem with..

In fact, some of us even put it in our Signature so we don't keep having to tell everybody on each different question....

what service did you do?
was it tested in your driveway prior to launch?
what kind of engine and drive setup?

I am running with a 4.3 GL - SX OMC Stern drive. I drained the Vertical drive system last fall after winterizing the engine for storage. I filled it with the recommended SAE 75W-90 Mobile 1 SHC as recommended by the owners manual. Following the instructions, I thought I had it totally filled, free of any air. What I did not do was when I started it this summer before putting it in, I did not check the dip stick level. My mistake. Could low level be causing me the problem?
