My boat is a 27' sea ray mercruiser 260,
Last time we took it out it ran fine out untill we tried to dock. It stuck in reverse and would not change gear, even though I could throttle.
After finally trailering the boat, I looked at the riser where the linkage is mounted and everything looked fine. I went out to troubleshoot today and while spinning the prop by hand and having the shifter moved from forward, neutral, reverse several times. I don't think the lower shift cable is broken. I felt different resistence at each shift.
For history, The outdrive was removed recently by a marina
for gimble bearing replacement, bellows and water pump/seal kit.
Could something be out of adjustment?
I'm kind of lost on which way to go from here
I really don't want to be in the same situation again
(stuck in 1 gear) Any suggestions??

Re: Stuck in reverse

Lower shift cable could have been damaged upon drive installation, or just plain worn out, that cable is a common cause with most shift issues for mercs.
