Arghhh...having a real hard time here! I was changing my gear oil on 4hp 96 Johnson that I bought used and after removing the lower plug I could not for the life of me budge the upper plug to release the vacuum. Unfortunately I have partially stripped the plug. I sprayed some penetrating oil on it to let sit overnight, hopefully that will help? Anyone have any suggestions on what to do if I can't get the plug out? Also, the upper plug seemed to be recessed into the lower unit in comparison to the lower plug, I am wondering if perhaps it was over tightened in the past.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Stuck Lower Unit Plug

I had a lower unit bolt stuck on one of mine. Heated it with a propane torch a couple of times and it broke free.
