Trying to do the water pump on a force outboard and connot get the lower unit off. Not really an old motor so it is not corroded. Is there anything specific I should look for?
Hi terrapinflyer, we need to know the year and hp of your motor.
Some lower units were secured with 4 bolts, some with 7, and a shift rod connection.
All the bolts are removed. It id a 120 hp, 2001 motor. I am sure everything has been disconnected I just cant get the damn thing off. I really do not want to start beating on the thing I just figure there must be something I am missing. Any suggestions would be very helpful.
2 bolts on each side of the lower unit.
Then remove the trim tab above the prop.
Then remove the bolt that is up under the trim tab.
No shift shaft to disconnect on that motor.

Sometimes a wooden wedge and a rubber mallet is needed.

If motor was run in saltwater, driveshaft could be seized to the powerhead.

FYI, the last year of production for FORCE motors was 1999.
Found my answer put in reverse and a cotter key and pin come into view take out cotter key push out pin and shift linkage will seperate this allows lower unit to slide down spline shaft will slide out at top and water pipe will slip out of fitting in top of water pump
