Stuck replacing driveshaft seal

Our 1968 Johnson 100 HP had milky gear oil.
We just took the lower end off and we're wondering whether we got the right seals and all the parts.

We thought we had to replace the two metal rings, labeled 10, and that's it. Now I'm not sure if those are the seals anymore nor if we need a net extension to gear case gasket(could oil and water mix there?).

Please let us know what part needs to be replaced if it's leaking by the drive shaft and whether the gasket is critical.

Thanks

Do you have the list describing what all the parts are called? There are other seals on that LU

To reseal the lower unit you need to replace 2 #10, 2 #38, 2 #85.
Make sure the wire harness, where it goes into the lower unit, is sealed. It seals by friction fit, make sure the housing is clean. You can reuse #25 gasket as long as it is not broken or torn. The gasket does not affect the lower unit oil, just seals the exhaust housing.

That's what I thought.

How do I replace the 10s?

I'm about to take the extension off.. will the 10s slide right off the driveshaft?

The seals will be pressed into the housing under the water pump.

Our gasket has a crack in it, will that make any difference? It looks like if water were to get in through the gasket, it could get to the gear oil..

And we can't get the seals off, they're stuck to the extension housing, what's the proper way of sliding them off and putting new ones on?

Thanks!

If the gasket is broken, replace it.
Arn't the seals pressed into #78?

The seals are inside the extension housing, probably touching #78 when it's all together.

Will the broken gasket leak water in the lower unit through 78 or not?

It'll take a week or so to get a new gasket and we'd like to put it back together today

If the gasket is broken between the extension housing and the lower unit it needs to be replaced, you could try some sealer to seal it up but water might leak past.
The seals are a press fit into the extension housing, make sure that you install them back to back when you put them in.
