I’m hoping I can get some guidance from someone else there that’s been through this. I recently got a carburetor and I installed it and I noticed that when I tighten up all four nuts the return action sticks if I loosen just one of the nutd in the corner closest to the Linkage it snaps forward. It’s as if tightening it causes the linkage to stic and freeze . I’m trying to figure out what would cause something like this to happen some type of warping affect. So right now I’m using the boat with three nuts properly tightened and the fourth one just snug

The carb body may be warped, or the throttle plates are not centered
Look at the plates to see if one of them is not dead center in the bore. If that is good, use a steel straight edge and check flatness of the base

OK I did notice that when I put back the old carb same thing... 2 nd question the carb kit come with 2 gaskets for the manifold base. That could be the problem I used both on the is simple and rectangular the other conforms to the crab base. Do I use one or both and if one which one ?

The gasket used would be determined by the intake. If it has 2 holes or one big one

Thank you My intake is one rectangular hole (one Big One), The one on the right . I will use just one gasket I was using two this could have been causing the warping effect

So here's another update I tried to put the other carburetor back on with the correct gasket and I just keep noticing if I hand tightened the four nuts it seems to be OK but once I tighten it the way a carburetor should be tight and snug there's a problem now here's the funny part it's happening on both carburetors the old one never did this before so I'm really confused.
I cannot be the plates because it is happening on both cabs??.At one point I thought it was the linkage that goes from the What I like to call shifter control ton the side of the intake manifold maybe it was getting stuck on something but what it's doing is when you accelerate and bring it the idle back down again It stays at about 1200 RPM's instead of down to 700 you've got to tap the linkage and then It's fine.

When I tighten everything down as a carburetor should be tightened I can move that throttle linkage back and forth and it snaps right back to where it should be the second I put that linkage on it seems to start to act up and I'm wondering if that linkage is causing a misalignment causing the plates to stick or something else I don't know.

While every carb has a return spring, on a boat, the spring is not responsible for returning the carb throttle plated closed, the throttle cable is.

Remove the cable and barrel nut off the motor.
Adjust idle speed screw for correct idle rpm
Adjust throttle cable and barrel nut so they both just slide into position. Once there remove again and adjust barrel out one turn so it applies a slight bit of force to keep carb against the adjust screw

So what happened was when I got the replacement carburetor it came with that link piece attached to it the seller sold it to me because he said quote the flap gets stuck apparently it was rebuilt because the linkage Was not moving because one of the screws for the linkage part that controls the accelerator pump choke rod and plate for idle adjustment were too tight .
It looks like this carburetor was rebuilt based on the smell. So when they rebuilt it and put it back together again apparently whoever did put this linkage on incorrectly gave it back to this person And he complained that it kept on sticking well the same thing happened to me. What gave it away is when I put my old carburetor back it was happening on that also.
I knew that my original carb didn't have a sticking problem so after a lot of focus and simple common sense I flipped it over and realized I had the link on backwards. I guess this is one of these moments where it's always a good idea to take a picture before you take things apart
