'86 23' marlin day cruiser, chevy 350, holley pro-jection fuel injection system, edelbrock high-rise intake manifold, omc outdrive.

My steering seems to be stuck. I can turn it all the way to the left and to where it's almost straight but then it gets stuck and won't go any further. It's a power steering system and I checked the fluid, it's fine. I just recently replaced the front helm rotary unit and cable about a week ago. It was all working great until about halfway through the day it just got stuck and wouldn't make it past that point. I felt it hang up at that point when I was turning right a few times before but was able to back off and try again and then it went away, but now it won't budge. When I put some pressure on it, it also makes the struggling noise that power steering makes. Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: stuck steering

Disconnect the cable from the drive. Does the drive move by hand? If so you may have new parts that failed?? Your going to have to check.

Re: stuck steering

no I haven't done that but it seems that it wouldn't make the noises from the rear of the power steering hydralics if it were the cable and the helm having the problem. It's acting like it's something further in after the cable linkage, but I don't really know what goes on past that to make any type of diagnosis, has anybody had any experience with this type of thing?
