Studded snow tires ?

A friend of mine may be purchasing a boat in the Boston area and asked me if I would use my truck as a tow vehicle. I have 4 studded snow tires installed as they are allowed here due to fast changing winter conditions. Canadian provinces will alow me passage through with the tires because they are permitted in my home province. Would I be alowed to drive through Maine, New Hamshire and Mass. without being ticketed or parked by authorities ? I`d like to keep them on because there seems like a lot of snowstorms this year along the Eastern seabord.

Heck, where I live, we run studded snows year around, with the conditions in the area you are proposing to travel, I can't see that it would be a problem. If you want to be sure, you should check the various state dept of transportation websites to see what their rules are on studded tires and traction devices.

Has anyone tried the Blizzik snow tires? My son that lives in Park City, UT. raves about them.

Yes. I have used the Blizzak's on a few of my cars and well worth every penny but, I do strip them off in the spring and store them so they will not wear down on dry roads.

Fisher.... I doubt you will have any problems at all with one exception ...... when you travel through Maine and get caught speeding .....the very first word the STate Trooper will say to you is Ayuh :D

Wow, can't believe you guys still use studded tires. We banned them in WI, IL, and MN, about 30 years ago.
I thought it was going to be a disaster, but it hasn't been. And it has saved the roads. Having not lived in any other states, I did not realize that studded tires were still in use.

Re: Studded snow tires ?

I'm 31 years old live in Wisconsin am all over car culture and being a gear head and feel a bit sheltered as I've never even seen a studded tire, I guess I have seen tires with screws screwed in them for ice racing but thats about it.

Sounds wild to have studded tires on a high speed automobile, does it affect the ride or handling ? Imagine it only improves grip on ice or maybe hard packed ice ?
Are they used on 4 wheel drives or are these mostly used on worthless 2wd hulks ?

They can affect handling if your not used to them, but for the most part you really don't notice them, they are used on both 4wd and 2wd, and where I live in Montana, we pretty much run them year around.

This is them....some tires have more studs. Great on gravel roads that build up hard pack snow and ice.
