I took the boat from Buzzards Bay over to the Vineyard side of Cape Cod yesterday and met up with a former work buddy of mine who has a SeaRay 270. We beached for a while at Waquoit Bay. The wind forecast was for 10-15 mph for the day, but as per usual, the afternoon winds really kicked up.

So, it was just my brother and I on the boat that day and we headed back late afternoon into 20-25 mph winds. We were headed straight into the seas going along Vineyard sound and into Woods Hole, and following seas in Buzzards Bay. Seas were 3-4 in the bay, but we happened to go over a rogue 5-6 footer and came down sharply. Seeing a wall of water coming over the deck, my brother and I both ducked. . . .

It was like a ride on Splash Mountain  everything stem to stern was soaked. I'm sort of glad the Admiral and crew were not with us for that adventure.

When we got back to our harbor and on the mooring, I noticed all kinds of water spray in the cabin around the port lights (port holes). It seems that the water pressure from the bow stuffing flexed the port lights enough to allow some water to come in. Kind of surprising, but shows you the power of water . . .

I guess I'll have to trim up a bit more next time

Wow, that musta been... surprising! Our boats aren't really expected to suffer that, uh, indignity. Glad you came through unscathed.

We suffered those same high winds yesterday, too, starting at about 4:00. It wasn't in the forecast, and several of us had planned to overnight on the hook. Well, the raftup dragged its anchors. We tried to move the 5 boats in the group together and redeploy them. Total fubar. At one point we had a 32' Trojan being dragged around by an 18' Bowrider to extricate his anchor line from under my boat, and I looked up to see Linda (who had gone aboard another boat to help with the windlass) shooting around us at the helm of a 30' Chris Craft flybridge! WTF! I wish I had it all on video. LOL.

(Linda told me that the windlass had jammed. The owner needed to clear that, so he ordered her to the bridge to pilot the boat. She had to keep telling herself, 'I will not cry. I will not cry.')

Luckily, no boats or people hurt, and nobody lost their ground tackle. Another lesson learned.
