I have a 28 ft boat with twin 200 merc's. The counter rotating engine only delivers 4900 rpm at full throttle with motor properly trimmed. The other motor runs at 58oo rpm. I checked the carbs and they are all open to full. What could be the problem?

Not much information, but I would first start out by makeing sure all cylinders are getting spark. You may be down one cylinder. If this is the case check spark plug, wire, and coil, if they're ok power pack could be your problem. If electrical is not your problem check the fuel system. I had the same problem and mine was elecrical. (power pack) Good luck!<br />CU

Compression, spark and fuel!! Check compression, all should be about the same, check for spark on all cylinders,(you'll have to make an air gap tool to check all six cylinders), and then run the motor at various speeds, and see if it picks up any power when you spray fuel into each of the carbs. If it's running correctly, it should actually drop power as you spray. (you're flooding it!!) If you get to a cylinder that picks up power, then that's the cylinder/carb to attack!!

I'dd verify that tach reading with a shop tach unless you can tell that these engines are not equal contributors. Then isolate the fuel source and try to force feed it.Then observe ignition with a timeing light at the affected rpm.We have already done the timeing and sync procedure on this engine ,have'nt we?If not why?
