Putting new motor in the boat (4.3 v6 with gen 1 alpha 1). Cant seem to get it aligned. Motor mounts are bottomed out. new rear mounts and hardware. As i was messing with it this morning - neighbor kid came over and was in the cockpit - he put his foot on the front of the motor - and BAM - instant alignment. Now I have NO hardware on the motor other than ntake and valve covers. To make it easier to get at stuff for alignment. Do I need to fully Dress the motor (steering pump, alternator, distributor, carb, manifolds, etc... ) before going through alignment?

If the rear motor mounts are near new, the front mounting points have not be changed, the transom has not been replaced since motor was out, then I would say your transom may be soft.

Has anything like stringers, transom or other been changed?

Oh yeah... New stringers, new floor, one new motor mount box - so a lot has changed. I didn't think to check if there was no adjustment left in motor mounts - never thought Regal would have build it that way.they were all the way down from the beginning.

Suggest grind out at least a 1/2 down if not 3/4, then glass back over no more then 1/4. After the boat settles in it may need a tad more adjustment next year

I found it pretty easy to eyeball the alignment first time using a good small flashlight and just looking through the gimbal bearing. What you are looking for is the splines in the coupler being straight on to the gimbal. At the same time, you can align the gimbal so it points right at the coupler. I found it pretty easy to see when the coupler was angled too high or too low. You can get mighty close without having to try and figure out what the marks on the alignment bar mean.

Snug up the bolts on the motor mounts. Dress the motor. You'll have to do an alignment check after its done before putting the stern drive on.

I get it
