Ok, have everything disconnected from my 1995 4.3lx Mercruiser.

Pulling Motor because of a bad flywheel from the PO.

I was looking over everything last night before shutting down. I noticed I don't have a wench that will fit the bolt diameter of the forward mount NUTS.

I am at my day job and before I head all the way home I wanted to stop at the local Wally World and pick up the correct wench size.

I told you it was a dumb question, so any help would be great....

Thanks..

Remove the lag bolts holding the mounts to the stringer.

You pulled the outdrive first didn't you?

Yes I did.

Not to question you, but just for my own source of knowledge why the lag bolts?

That's not the first time I have heard that and I was hoping you would be the one to respond.

Your knowledge has helped me in the past... Thanks...

Thanks for the quick response.

It's easier, you don't beat the threads of the motor mount to death trying to get them to line up when putting the engine back in, and it gives you something to set the engine on blocks with while working on it.

+1
Plus it gives you a pretty close starting point for where the alignment will be when you reinstall the engine. While it is out be sure to check that the bolt on the mount to adjust is free and able to be easily adjusted. A lot easier to do with the engine out than in the boat.

A lot of boats I work on (we only have salt water here) have the heads of the lag bolts so heavily rusted that you don't want to go near them, that's why my preference it to remove the nut, like the OP asked. If you prefer that route, 1-1/8"AF.
