stupid question

is a mercury prop and a mercruiser prop the same? i have a mercruiser alpha one gen one. i have some one trying to sell me a mercury prop but he don't know if they are the same but he says he thinks they are. i don't know were to find this info both props are 14.5x19 please help. i need a prop bad but don't have the money to buy a new one.

If the prop is for the same size gear case and spline then it should be fine. I looked in iboats.com, red bar, mouse on Boating Store, typed props in the search box and hit enter, 175 Mercury outboard and 4.3L Mercruiser alpha 1 in Hustler props both took the same one.

Same.There is a difference in older props compared to new.J

Please help post my question..can't post..registered but can't post and need help..175 1976 mercury outboard running down lake today and thought I heard a light pop and it went down to just hardly moving. Motor would still crank up but no prop speed.. boat out of water and still shifts into gear. ..where should I start looking . Where else besides linkage cables is there to look..This motor has been real sweet to me and am hoping not to hard to find problem ...please post this for me..thank you..chewbro1
