Hey all,

Had a clogged pitot inlet in my '92 Sea Ray. Somehow a piece of wood was stuck in there. Ended up having to drill it out...

Here's the boneheaded part...How does one go about getting the broken drillbit out of the hole!?!

It's too far in to get anything on it. I tried blowing it out w/ compressor, not enough restriction to build up pressure. Magnet didn't work. Any suggestions out there?

Thanks.

Even if you got the drill bit out you have more than likely changed the diameter of the hole and it won't work right anyhow.

Pitot speedos are welll known for being very in accurate, buy a new pitot or better yet get a GPS unit, they are always right.

Sorry guys, the pitot inlet is on the stern drive. It's an Alpha 1 I/O. I won't have it in the water till this weekend. Maybe it'll just fall out while driving down the road!!!

Don't worry about it. The two items on a boat that are completely useless are the speedo and the fuel gauge ( sometimes ). Buy a cheap GPS if you are worried or concerned about your m.p.h.
The last thing you want to do is drill more and run through ( and into ) the gearcase. Now you've got a problem.

Good call. It's these forums that get me trying to fix the things that haven't worked since I got the boat (a whooping 3 wks). But what the hey...everyone says I'm happier and nicer with a project going. Thanks.

Take the lower off and pull out the shift shaft hold down and you will see the water cavity there and take a long flat head and hit it and break th drill bit and push whats remaining of the bit into the water cavity and stick your magnet down in there and get it or turn the lower up and let the pieces fall out but you will need to fill the upper and lower back up b/c you will lose your lube from the upper and it will empty the drive bottle on the motor as well (if equiped) and while you have it off put a new impeller in it

Ha ha! Yea, I'm usually the first to complain about 'having' to spend the day wrenching or about being 'heart-broke' that a buddy dinged the prop and I have to upgrade to a SS.;)

What do you mean by 'pushing it through'? It's only about a 1" piece that broke off. With it in there, won't the pressure be about the same as without? The compressor builds to a mere 15-20psi at the inlet. I might reference it to a GPS next time out, but I really just want the darn guage to read something (correct or not).
