I have a 14foot fiberglass with 33ho Johnson. So i needed to change the oil (never worked on outboards before and didn't get manual yet) in the lower unit so i undo the top oil level screw. Then i undid the Philips screw!! whoops. Filled up with oil and couldn't get it to go in so removed lower unit and replaced impeller while at it. Filled it with oil with the lower unit off. Put it back on hooke duo shifter, didn't work! O @%*$ tok it apart and had ot take the lower gear case apart and then realized the drain screw was on the bottom of that (wow i feel dumb). Figure out shifter and fix that (easiest gear fix of my life was happy) then put it back on and its shifting great. i used liquid gasket on the linkage peak hole. 1 thing down, :Dgreat!

Then i was reinstalling the seat with new plywood base. Was using 4 inch screws so im screwing it in with my impact gun and hear a cracking sound. O what the &#^* did i do now. Sure enough it was sticking out the bottom of my boat a 1/2 inch. Pulled it out and put it in a different spot and took some caulk and filled it in, ill fiberglass it later.
**** happens i learned a lot tho and got 2 quarts of oil on my recently cleaned shop floor.

Sure hope you refilled it through the bottom drain hole with a pump, NOT through the top vent hole, or you're liable to have an air pocket and fry the lower unit ...........

Yes i did it from the bottom with a trans oil pump fit perfectly it had some baubles coming out so i kept pumping to get most of them out but it had oil all over the place. But i think its mostly oil in their. Im going to run it a few times then replace anyway. I know the gears are definitively in oil.
Thanks for the help Matt
