I have a 05' 3.0L mercruiser that after a skiier goes down and i turn around to go to pick them up if I turn it off to allow them to climb the swim platform the engine has a hard time shutting down. It will sputter after i turn the key to OFF.

Carb adjustment maybe? I've never adjusted a carb before so any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Seriously, don't do that.
Especially with a 3.0L, they will diesel every time (aka "It will sputter after i turn the key to OFF").
When you throttle back to idle, Merc recommends you let it idle for a couple minutes to cool down and burn off excess fuel from the slow down process.
Then when the idle is slow enough, it will stop.

Re: Stutter at Shutdown

Thanks for the help, and teaching me the actual term.

I guess i'll just try and be a little more patient with it. It just seems really rough and i didn't want to bust a motor mount or do any damamge because of the dieseling.

Thanks again!
