Substitue for carb float gauge for Johnson motor?

I am rebuilding carbs on my 70 horse johnson. The manual says to use a float gauge to check the float level. Since this is Sunday does anyone know of a way to properly check this height without a gauge? Like to get this done and tested today but I probably will wait to buy one of these.

Hey Tinhog,
Turn the carb. bodys upside down the floats should be parallel with the body of the carbs.

First off, didn't your rebuild kit include some kind of instructions? When i rebuilt the carbs on my chrysler the kit came with instructions and a gauge and the proper measurements, all i can tell you is call your dealer or repair shop tomorow. By the way what type of carb is it?

Hello,
I just rebuilt my 1988 johnson outboard and it did not come with intructions either, Did not have float gage either so I aligned the flaots witht the carb body and motor runs great no probs. :)
