Thanks everybody for your advice in draining the fuel tank and in the use of a portable tank on an I/O. I followed the wires under an almost inaccessable area to the sending unit, pulled apart a seat back that I'll have to fix and removed the sending unit. Stuck a hose down into the tank, stuck the other end into a gas can under the boat, squezeed the ball and the gas came running out.

I don't know how things that should be so easy become so hard but it sure feels good when you accomplish them.

Next, it's put on the rebuilt carb when it comes and hope for the best.

Be sure to put a new gasket under that fuel tank sending unit, don't even think about using the old one. It will leak. And gas in the bilge is not a good idea.
