sucking exhaust air causing to stall when full throttle,1978 merc 850

I took the boat in to a mechanic and he said he fixed it but same problem. This is the story he gave me.OK the engine has a seal leak on the lower crank. Exhaust is coming out and sucking air causing the fuel mixture to be different. Thus causing the engine to stall at full throttle. So I hope this sounds right please help. He changed fuel lines, rebuilt carbs , and fuel pump, changed stator and boat has the same problem.
