Okay guys I found a pretty good deal on a clean 1998 Sugar Sand Mirage 120hp jet boat I am going to look at. The guy was asking $2500, I offered $1800 and he is considering it. The boat looks super clean and he said he spent $1000 on all the electrical components last year on it so hopefully that should be good for a while, he said carbs could use cleaned as its been sitting since last summer but other than that it's good to go.

What problems should I look for and things should I inspect when looking at this boat with the mercruiser motor/jet drive?

Thanks,
Spencer

It has an obsolete force engine, very difficult to get parts for, it also has big issues with the rectifier going bad, when that happens once you shut down the ignition as the stator turns , ac current from the windings creates a bad electrical field and within a second the brain is fried, usually people don't understand why the brain goes bad so they replace it only to have it go bad the second the engine is turned off.
Also the pumps are very difficult to find parts for.
It's inexpensive for a reason and before you purchase it take it for a drive that should convince you one way or the other.
