So, I bought the 40 hour 2003 boat in my sig late last season. Like everyone says in their posts, it was as nice as a newer used boat can be as a low usage boat should be. Literally looked unused and still smelled new. I towed it a total of 500 miles on blacktop using the snap on bow and cockpit cover over two separate trips while the guy I bought it from only towed it 3 miles to the same lake at slow spead a handful of times. At the end of the second trip after it got winterized, the blue gelcoat stripe and the decals both near the bow of the boat had multiple small rock chips on them. To say the least I was mad at myself. I started looking into trailerable, custom fit, mail order covers but upon reading more posts here it seems they can do more harm than good by scuffing the gelcoat. The boat is stored indoors 365 days a year less a few vacation days so I don't need a cover for storage purposes. I really only care about somehow covering the front of the bow some of which is further down than a cover will go anyway while trailering. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop the rock chips shy of not towing? I am actually suprised a minivan with narrow tires and mudflaps kicks any debris up so high. The kicker here is that the first time I saw the chips was after I got my boat back from being winterized after my last trip (and I wash the boat after every use). I though what the heck happened in the boat yard but that is just paranoid.
