Does anyone have a suggestion for giving a deck texture to help keep a person from slipping on the cheap? This will be for a fishing boat so looks arent that important. I was thinking about using some left over Easypoxy paint that I have sprinkling some silica sand on the surface before it dries, then putting down a second coat.My only concern with the silica sand is it may not be coarse enough.Has anyone tried doing this or something like this?
If anyone has other methods or processes to make a nonslip coating Id like to hear your ideas.

Use a Coarser Sand! I did and it worked great using Rustoleum Paint with Hardener in it. Lowes has the coarse sand in 50 lb bags for less than 5 bucks.

I like to use Awlgrips "griptex" nonskid. Its probably a bit over kill for you ( average 35 bucks for a small jar ). But when you tread on it and the paint starts to wear off you dont see dark splotchy spots.

Use the sand on the cheap ( quartz playsand is good like Woody suggested ).

I like to mix my sand in With the Paint. Just keep adding the sand to the paint and stir well. After stirring .. tilt your stir stick approx 45 deg and let drain. The pattern you see on the stick will closely match what your finish will be when rolled on or sprayed.

Of course keep some untainted paint just in case you need to recoat over your skid if needed.

YD.

PS. IF you want to sprinkle the sand .. here is a tip. Get an empty soup can and tape some screen door screen on top of it ( sometimes 2 layers of screen is needed ) ;)
