Summer Garden Deterrents

<br /><br />Now I know what your thinkn,he is at it again...this plant is actually a member of the Coleus family(Jung Plant). Its a good deterrent for all of our furry friends who treat our gardens like its their own private salad bar...Planted mine in spring and so far the critters are avoiding my greens like the plague. Gives off a nose wrinkling smell even for humans.<br /><br />I also place scented dryer wraps around plants that seem to keep all the deer from enjoying my fruits of labor. Most garden shops carry this or you can go to their web page.<br /><br />What remedies have you tried that seems to work for you?

Thats ingenious,<br />over here we had a problem with small insects including aphids invading our garden and we couldn't use sprays. One of our twin daughters is allergic to lots of chemicals.<br />I asked my grandmother many years ago what they used when they were lighthouse keepers and things were tough to supply.<br />She said they used to keep all the green vegetable water from boiling them for dinner and once a week put that through a watering can over any of the plants. Thats all they ever used for any insects in the garden. You have to know fresh water was in short supply then.<br />We tried it and have been doing so for 20+ years with excellent success, no insects seem to like it enough to come a calling........<br />Ross

i don't know how well they work, but we always put marigold plants at each end of the bushy vegetable rows. supposedly repells many flying bugs. and there was another plant also used against moles - castor bean plant.

We always planted marigolds too. My mom called it marriage planting.<br /><br />Right now I have an invasion of black fuzzy catapillars eating up my tomatoes. I put Dipel dust on them but still see signs of them. Any suggestions?
