I am about to purchase a pontoon party barge. I have no idea which, if either, is the better. Are they all basically the same and it comes down to the type of motor? I've been doing allot of research but they all claim to have the best one. Confused in Tampa.

The SunChaser has wood floors and the SunTracker has the option of either. Both have plastic seat bases.

After surfing the web further I found that SunTracker :( is at the bottom of the list as far as JD Powers goes. SunChaser made by Smoker Craft if alright. But SunChaser comes with a Yamaha :) which is rated #1 in both 2 and 4 stroke.

Re: SunChaser vs. SunTracker

I decided the PB27 I/O is for me, over a Bennington. Granted the Bennington is better, however there is more to go wrong. When I compared apples to apples I see that the basic equipment was just as good with nice eye appeal. Price was much better when you stripped it down. I also looked at re-sale. One thing that caught my attention was that not many Suntracker boats were being re-sold, something to think about.
Also, the metal decking (DuraDeck) was a definate plus as the boat deck I am trading in is rotten (1980 Harris floteboat, 24ft, 115 Mercruiser)
Hope that helps.

Pressure treated ply flooring will last a long, long time. Wood frames for seats are usually not pt and can rot quickly. I decided on pt ply floors with plastic seat frames when buying a 20'pontoon. That was in late 95 and still no sign of problems. Mine has no easy access to the motor or stern area without leaning down from a full width lounge...something I would change if buying another pontoon boat. Stern access for swimming and motor checking would be nice.
