I was just looking through ebay and I find this guy selling what I'll call a Super Coil. In conjuction with a Pertronix ignition, this coil is supposed to increase horsepower somewhere around 12 to 18%! He's asking $ 100.00 US for it. I asked how many volts it puts out and was answered:

"Here are the facts: an engine only uses as much voltage as is required for the job, and most engines require about 18,000. You could run down to your local speed shop, or watch our competitor's ads, and you'll be promised the world, but it ain't gunna happen! Only enough voltage goes to the plus as the amount of resistance in the cylinder requires-period.
Since the PerTronix device operates instantaniously as opposed to opening a gate when using points, the energy window is increased 3 or 4 times. Our coil supplies full voltage over this entire period of time, whcih is why we call it our "long duration coil". ALL of the power in anyone's ignition system using a coil comes from the coil only, so the way something is triggered inside the distributor certainly helps in opening this window and creating reliability, etc., our coil makes a giant difference! We love the Pertronix trigger and use it quite a bit ourselves, but our coil is where the added power and economy comes from. We ask you to call these other guys and ask them just how much increase you're going to receive, and the most usual answer is "none". The attached dyno sheet, plus many hundreds of satisfied customer prove that ours does. Thanks for the inquiry, and we hope to show you soon why our motto since 1959 has been "Engines Love Us!"

Here's the ebay ad:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2477151031

Sounds like a bunch of bull. Can someone chime in on this?
