Here's a few pics to show the progress of the ss deck.I have been waiting on storage locker locks and the deck board locks to arrive,so I've been working on carpeting for the deck and the supports for the storage lids.I did have to go larger on the angle for the lids. The 3/4 wasn't wide enough to catch the lids once the carpet was on.I went with some 1" 1/2 pieces I had laying around. You know, run watcha brung.Worked out ok.Added some 1" angle to the deck board underneath to support the corners of the boxes and the span of the lids.I used stainless piano hinge exposed,I like shiny! hard for me to hide a nice piece of hardware! besides it's a little different.I also turned the grain of the carpet to give it a contrast to the deck.Gonna get it mounted up tomorrow and lay the rest of the carpet. Here's some pics.

Looks like Berasford, Indoor-outdoor carpet. We used it for gym floors in Elementry schools . Wears like Iron I have had a piece outside for 16 years and it washes like new every spring. I dont know what he used but it looks first rate.

nice rug, but I would, and will conceal my flanges when hinging. The deck carpet folds into the jamming and the lid carpet folds into, and under the lid via the sides. The hinges should be mounted before carpeting, like this pic:

That was the bow on my 2000, this is the bow on my 1979 SS180, ready for the same conversion............once I clear the rest of the crapolaaa out and add more structural nailers.

Real nice. When I re-do mine I'm going to try to find those L shaped piano hinges that can mount from the underside. Your circular cut-out looks great and I think I'll go that route also.

Re: Super fisherman deck update

you want to use a SS piano hinge 3" shorter than the length of your lid leaving 1 and 1/2" each side free. The hinges are at Cabelas.

Before bow deck installation, install your lid jambs underneath and around the perimeter of the cutout. HD has 3" wide material in hard plastic that works great. I use the same thickness for the lids as the deck. I mount the hinges using either SS nut/bolt(my preference) or rivets to the top of the lid, lay it in place on the jambs, then attach to the wood deck.

Then buy a bag of springload wooden clothes pins, they work great holding all the carpet folds in place when drying.

As a bonus, I have a large roll of 12" wide vinyl about the mil of siding. I glue this on the inside of the lid that faces down so no wood is directly exposed, and it looks better.

On that 79, I am almost done removing the floor, and have to do the driver console removal. On the original design, I will hatch 2 batts for 24v motor in the center space, close off the side storage with a permanent extension and seat base, and build a wall in the bow that will have a pulldown hatch for small storage items like bow light and trolling foot pedal. Going to also mount one of the many LED lights as well as a plate for the new trolling plugin, etc.

As an added tip for the budget minded: Instead of those expensive shocks to hold the lids open, buy some storm door springs. Like the ones Grandmas screen door had. Hold lid open at 90 degrees and measure spring length, checking attachment points. Cut & screw one end to lid, the other to the opening lip, making sure the spring does not interfere with closing. When you open lid the sping straightens out and holds lid. When you want to close the lid, just tap it near the center, it will bend and let the lid close. Works great and can be done on any lid/door.:D
