I installed a sound system in my boat a year ago and it appears to be taking more juice out the battery than my 1986 Mercury Outboard can give back to the battery.
Is there (supplemental) alternators available on the market that can be added to these older motors to sustain higher voltage needs for the accessories within my boat?
Any suggestions would be appreciated - and it's great to see that this forum is still alive and kicking!
akendall

Other outboard motors have higher capacity alternators than the stock one for your motor. However, cost and fit are questions I cannot answer.
Since I cannot believe you can hear the sound system at high speed anyway, and this will charge your battery fastest, why not drive more and listen less LOL.
A second battery is also a possibility.

Thanks Chris! I love to drive fast... It's actually when we're cruising when we use the system however... and that's the only time my wife comes along!
