If you have ever surfed Hawaii, Mexico, Costa Rica, etc., it's time you try "Maverick's", on the San Mateo County coast, a few miles north of Half Moon Bay. (Pacific Ocean) This is where a world class surfer, from Hawaii, was killed a few year's ago durning the same competion. San Mateo County is the county south of San Francisco and north of Santa Cruz, California.

Surfing competion started this morning, just after day break, with 20 foot waves, with the wave's expected to reach 30 to 40 feet later in the day. Last year the wave's topped out at 50 feet!!!

Wet suit's are the dress of the day, as the water temp. at this time is 54 degrees(f).

Due to the size of the waves and the distance from shore to where the waves are picked up, the surfer's don't paddle out, but are towed out, way out, by jet ski's.

You might get some of this coverage on sport's news on this evening's tv news.

First prize for this event is $30,000!!! Nice money, if you live to spend it.

The area is just perfect weather wise today, with clear sky's and temp's into the mid-70's, with light wind.

...Bob in Calif...
