Went out on the boat today. Engine started fine. Went into gear and a little throttle - engine started to surge. Opened it up to about 2/3 WOT to see if any change. Seemed like it was being bogged down - surging was still very present. After bringing back throttle, it almost seemed to get worse. Checked the fuel pump filter (ceramic??) or something. Never seen this type of filter before but it seemed fine (cleaned out the bowl). Checked the inline filter at the carburator (fine). Took off the fuel filter/water separator, dumped out the fuel and saw some chunks. I suspect maybe this is the problem seeing as it's the first filter in line. Does this seem to be the problem? TIA

Re: Surging 3.0L mercruiser 1987

My 3.0L/LX 1995 mercuriser boggs down after a few minutes of running at full throttle. I have to idle or turn off engine to be able to accelerate again but only for a few minutes. Any ideas. Just rebuilt carberator. Still have to test.

more than likely chunks have blocked fuel sending. put everything back and try again. good luck

you are loseing me with the (Checked the fuel pump filter (ceramic??) or something)what ever that part is it is more than likely clogged the same goes for the carb filter the filters trap particals that are much to small to see .

put in all new filters they are very cheep then you can be sure that they are not the cause of you problem and you may solve the problem or at least have a good place to take the next step from
tommays
