susuki 40 hp 4 stroke wont start

have new battery. when key turned, starter gear pops up but does not turn flywheel. just click, click, click with starter gear vibrating and clicking. turned flywheel with rope, but starter not starting enging

Hello johnos.

This should be posted in the outboard repair forum. You will get better responses there.

But, it seems to me, you have either dirty or loose connections on your starter, a weak/bad battery, or a bad starter.

Disconnect, clean, and reconnect all of the battery cables at both ends, with particular attention to where the battery ground cable bolts to the engine block.

You probably have a tiny amount of corrosion that won't affect small current loads but will prevent the starter from getting enough current to do its job.
