I have I believe a 90's vintage 25 hp 3 cylinder. WOT unit runs straight true and normal. At cruise60% - 80% just fine.
IF I back off to an idle from full speed or cruise the engine slows down and stutters a bit and dies.

If I drive for about 1 - 3 minutes just above an idle it will be fine then suddely just stop. After I need to choke and sometimes pump the gas bulb(desperation) then it runs (idle) but will die as I raise the throttle. If I hit it wot it will take off and run however getting it to run above idle 10 - 50%, and stay running is impossible. I got it three years ago and thought originally it was a fuel issue I had an older 10hp tank and fuel line on it. then didn't use it for a year. This year new tank and fuel lines, plugs, same problem as before but might be somewhat worse.

Fuel pump?

about ready to trade up...

DO you have enough ventilation at the tank? Maybe time for a good carb clean, also check the reeds ......
