I have a buddy who has a Suzuki 115 1987, and the motor was recently rebuilt. The mech is claiming that it runs fine at his shop, but when we take it out to the water it has a serious lack of power. Mech claims that it is due to fuel tank on my buddies boat. We recently took the fuel tank out and emptied it out, put new fuel in it. So it is nothing in the tank. What else could be the problem, could the fuel lines be collapsing? Is there anything else in the tank that could cause this problem? We replaced the bulb on it as well.

All Help greatly appreciated.

Tallman

Re: Suzuki 115 Lack of Power

Hi,
Use an external portable gas tank including fuel lines+bulb+connectors that you KNOW works on another outboard. Fill it with new gasoline. Test. Result?

When the shop say it runs fine - how do they test the outboard at higher RPM to be sure? Have they tested the boat+outboard in the water?

What happen if You pump the bulb while trying to accelerate with the boat. If it helps it could be the fuel pump that is not able to deliver enough fuel. Then You probably need a set of this:

Link

Ref No 2, Part No 15100-72812, Diaphragm Set

Could be many other things also that can cause the symptom Your outboard shows, above is just one on the "suspected" items list.
