1989 Suzuki DT55 - I just bought a used boat with this motor and have two questions. How can I bypass the oil injection and how can I make the power tilt and trim break away when I hit something instead of breaking the motor or transom?

the trim will swing up. ithas a memory piston andvalving toallow that. willswing upand drop back down to the last position. the oil injection is all but bullet proof with maint. I would trust it further than I trust you to mix it. if you buy into the oil injection is bad crowd ya need to study how it works and what it does and why. however the trim and oil questions can be found in the manual. I do suggest reading it before any attepmts at altering or modifying your motor. if you have a manual question tell me what page.

Re: Suzuki 1989 55hp Power Tilt and Trim

Thanks I just bought the boat and it has not been in used since 1993 and only has about 100 hours on the whole package that was bought new in 1988. I duck hunt on a River that has lots of logs and snags and was worried about the motor kicking up. I could not pick it up by hand so I was not sure how much force it would take to kick it up. I don't know much about how the oil injection system work so I wanted to ask. The floats appear to be stuck. Fuel pours out of the weep holes on the side. Is my best option to take them off and tear them down and clean them good?

yes. tear them down clean them well, when you think you have them clean,do it again:). then reassemble them. now will be a good time to clean the oil tank and the inline filter. after your done run 6gallons of premix at 50/1 and bleed the pump. sometimes the oil will get like jelly lumps that will cause problems if sitting for extened periods. in fact I belive the factory service manual mentions this and what to do when bringing out of storage. make sure the engine uses about a pint or so of oil, from the oil tank, when the 6 gallons is gone. here is where magic markers are handy

Thanks for all of yours suggestions. How is the best way to go about cleaning the oil injection system? Do you know the best place I can get a manual or a place I can download a manual and save it to my computer. Thanks again for all the help.

iam4ducks
