suzuki 6 hp carb issues

Brother in law has a Suzuki 6hp sorry dont' know the exact model or year. About three years ago right after he bought it the old metal tank he was running got crud in the carb. Local marina rebuilt the carb and he went to a plastic tank. Motor ran great until about a month ago. Turns out there is crud in the carb again. Any ideas where it might be introduced? Almost looks like rubber chunks.

u need to add a water seperator in line will help with that
probally from the tanks where he fills up at

I see it many times in my tanks, the fuel these days is very dirty, especially when the fuel pump is almost empty ...... I added a little fuel filter on the fuel line that i replace every now and then, or a water seperator will do the trick ....
