Suzuki DF 140- Lost "Tell Tail" Fitting

First post here and I have what I hope is a pretty simple question.

Had the boat out this past weekend and noticed somewhere along the way that I lost the tell tail fitting, pee-hole, or whatever you call it on the back of the motor that produces the tell tail stream of cooling water out to the side. I still get water gurgling out the port directly behind the boat where the fitting used to reside, but is impossible to view this while underway.

Is this as simple as going to my local Suzuki parts dealer, buying a new fitting, and inserting it myself? Upon a brief inspection, I did not see how this fitting was to be installed- I did not see any threads (to screw it in) nor did I see any collars or such that would allow me to snap one back in. How does this little guy go back in? Screw, snap, or what?

aggycat, I too have the DF140. It's a great engine. I haven't seen that problem before, or heard of it. When you say the water is " gurgling" out the back ? Does the flow seem restricted ? The fitting does concentrate the fow ( like a spray nozzle) so you can see the stream. However, the amount of flow should be the same. I would first make sure there isn't blockage of some sort. ( operating close to sandy bottoms etc.) If your at all concerned reguarding this, I would take her in and have it checked out. PROPERLY functioning Cooling systems and outboards are a must. my .02 cents. CHEERS !

Infact, you can turn this little nozzle 360 deg to spray the water where it is most viewable to you. It is just a little plastic piece. It is this plastic piece that I am missing. The port where this nozzle goes is now just a bare port and yes I am getting water flowing from here- no restrictions.

It simply snap's in, you do need that nozzle because it put's pressure on the "pee-hole" pipe that is connected to it for correct cooling, the water that comes out at the middle at back "sneeze-hole" must flow freely when running engine after plane .... hope that makes sence ... you can find that nozzle on www.brownspoint.com part no. 61155-94500 for $1.86 or try and make your own, but you need one as it needs the pressure the specific hole size creates for it ...

I suspected this nozzle was required not just for directing water out to the side but also to add back pressure to the system. Makes sense because my water pressure gauge went to zero when I lost this piece.

Re: Suzuki DF 140- Lost "Tell Tail" Fitting

Hey DJ, Thanks for the help. During lunch today I headed over to a Suzuki service dealer and picked up the pieces (literally). But first I went to the Brownspoint website to check on the part. The dealer pulled up the same parts list / drawing as on that website and I was able to point and say "give me one of those and that also". I think I'm actually missing 2 pieces, the nozzle and the plastic sleeve that it snaps into. The plastic sleeve appears to screw in to the water port on the motor and the nozzle (with an o-ring)snaps into the sleeve. Anyway, I picked up 2 of each. Thanks again.
