Suzuki DF140 opinions

I'm considering replacing my 2 stroke Suzuki 115 with a Suzuki DFS140 4 stroke and wanted to know if anyone has any experience (good or bad) with the DFS140. Also, I have been told that repairs for 4 stroke engines cost considerably more than 2 strokes.

Hi, JBjr.<br /><br />Welcome to iboats. <br /><br />So far, 4 strokes appear more reliable than 2 strokes, particularly DFI 2 strokes. If repair is not needed they cost nothing.<br /><br />The DF140s, in Suzuki or Johnson paint, have proven very satisfactory engines. Every report I have read from actual users indicate that they are very happy with them. I have read of zero complaints.<br /><br />Since this is neither Trouble nor Repair, I am moving to General Outboard.

Well I got a Suzuki DFS 140 4 stroke 2004 model with 400 hours on it it leaks oil real bad. Dealer said its under warranty so getting fixed right now will let Forum know about the cause. I think another forum member from Greenland had the same problem also, same year motor as mine. Personally I like the performance of my suzuki the fuel economy is great and its real quiet. I also like the fact that it has a timing chain versus a timing belt. its also lighter then most 140's. Keep checking the forum for possible problems before you commit. Good luck

Repowered my 20ft wellcraft with the 140 in July. Put 200+hours on it. No problems at all. Very good on fuel, plenty of power for the 3000 lb boat- 35+ mph. Quiet and no 2 cycle fumes! Light for the HP. Very pleased with this engine- would buy it again.
