Dear sirs,

I have the following problem with my DF50 outboard of 2002.

The engine was installed by a professional outboard engine mechanic on my Boston Whaler 13 sport. It ran PERFECTLY for 1 year. Then suddenly, after I had not used the engine for approximately 1.5 months, the engine gave the following problems in the next sea run. The engine would start, run roughly and excelerate poorly, the engine was apparently running on less than all three cylinders.. Once at approximaltely 4000 RPM all cylinders would suddenly work fine (at 4000 RPM and higher only).
At home now on the trailer I found the following facts:
-the engine only runs on the lowest cylinder, all others are dead
-all 3 sparkplugs fire
-all sparkplugs are fine (interchanged them)
-all 3 injectors receive the same signal (measured with engine running, with an analog
voltage meter)
-injectors have been cleaned, interchanged, all are fine!
-the engine turns over normally and sound mechanically sound!
-the pressure out of the high pressure fuel pump is high (not measured but verified by
opening the top of the fuel pipe into which the injectors are placed)
-The engine diagnostic lights do NOT light up to indicate a failure (they do work, light up
at startup)
-Once the engine runs, with the throttle open quite a bit and running only on the bottom
cylinder, the charging of the battery is perfect.
-All fuel going to my engine passes through a fuel water seperator and should be very
clean.
-The engine has not been hot as it is always flushed with fresh water after use for several
minutes and the water cooling indicating stream of water is very good.

I am personally convinced the problem is something very simple but cannot find it thus far.

I am suspicious of the computer but have no diagnostic tool to check it, nor do I have a replacement computer I could try out.
I live in the island of Curacao in the dutch Caribbean and there is no Suzuki specialist here to help me out or advise me.

If there is any known cuase for this malfunction or if you have any logical thoughts on the possible cuase, I would surely appreciate it.

Sincerely,

Robert Schnog

You have to check the fuel pressure, should have about 34 lbs at idle and full throttle, and hold about 20 lbs engine off. Check the valve adjustment.

1. buy new sparkplugs even if they look fine...
2. try draining your vapor separator, its inside the airintake aluminium, the drain screw is just inside the oillevel stick.
