1987 Suzuki DT 115. Long story short, been having some intermittent, weird alarm issues. Unhooked what I think are all the sensors on the engine- water flow, oil flow, oil level. I know the only other alarm on the engine is over-rev, and I don't think that has a sensor. Don't have the alarm guage. Alarm still goes off sometimes, once it does, seems to stay on, and rev limiter kicks in. Next trip out, things are OK, then without warning, not RPM related, goes off again. What next? Could this be a bad CDI?

How about over temp.
Are you sure it is getting enough oil? with everything disconnected you are running a risk

Re: Suzuki DT 115 Alarm Question.

Looking at the manual (you do have a REAL Suzuki service manual for YOUR engine right?) the only three things that are monitored by the warning system are high engine RPM, low oil level, and water flow. So, if you don't have the engine monitor you must have a DT115T model.

I might recommend hooking all the sensors back up. Run the engine and if it is the low oil sensor there is a reset button to override the system so you can get home. Remove the engine cover and press the reset button. If the sensor is bad this may not work though. Not trying to sell you something you don't need but I have a sensor from my blown engine that might fit yours if it comes to that.

The flow switch can be tested by removing it, hooking it to a ohm meter, and checking continuity while you move the float arm. You could have an overheat problem associated with an old water pump or corrosion in the water pump housing area where the exhaust gasses get sucked back in instead of water. Let's make sure the switch is good first.

Over rev should be easy enough to see but you said that is not the issue.

Re: Suzuki DT 115 Alarm Question.

The problem is with all my sensors (water flow, oil level and oil flow) disconnected, the alarm STILL goes off. PS- there is an oil flow sensor. I don't believe the alarm should go off when the sensors are disconnected. What next? The sensors all feed into the CDI unit, could that be the issue?

I have problem solved what the alarm was in the past by incrementally disconnecting the sensors. When the alarm went off, I knew that sensor was the one causing it. So I believe with the sensors disconnected, there should be no alarm.

So bottom line, the alarm should NOT sound with all the sensors disconnected, right? If so, what is bad, the CDI?

Could it be a bad connection or short in the wiring?

I'm not sure what would happen if the sensor was disconnedted. I would expect the CDI to go into alarm if it couldn't find the sensor because there is nothing there to tell it the condition is ok.
